What is MaterFred?
MaterFred is a ship between Manfred von Karma from Ace Attorney and Tow Mater from Cars.This ship is quite popular in the fandom, proven by them having over 4 fanfictions on Archive Of Our Own and being mentioned by Drawfee*AO3

MaterFred (also known as KarMater in the Western fandom) is the slash ship between Manfred von Karma, long-standing champion prosecutor, and Tow Mater, a truck.Manfred has an uke personality and is tsundere a lot, while Mater is a kind and supple character (who builds confidence throughout Cars 2).This ship is widely known for being one of the protagonist x antagonist ships (others including USUK and KomaHina.)They don't appear in the same games, but their arcs actually really parallel and complement each other!Manfred is a hotshot celebrity who has to experience his first loss, and is left at a loss because of it. Sound familiar? It's because it's an exact copy of Lightning McQueen's situation in Cars (2006)!However, not only that; Mater resembles Gregory Edgeworth, in many aspects! Firstly, he has a brown coat. Secondly, he acts (or would have acted) as a mentor figure for a young red man. I'm convinced!Were Mater and Manfred in each other's stories, I'm sure they would have ended up in the exact same situation, and that's what makes their relationship so tragic. Shipping MaterFred is a lot like shipping GregKarma or MaterQueen, except without the age gap. Proshippers are not allowed to enjoy MaterFred!

Alright, heckers, I'm gonna do you a learn about maths!!The original Cars (2006) movie is assumed to have taken place during the release year: 2006. Thus, the sequels follow that pattern, until you reach Cars 3 (2017.) Brian Fee, the director of Cars 3, has said that Lightning McQueen is 40 in Cars 3. If he is 40 in 2017, then he would have been born in 1977.Next is Mater, whose birth year is easy to find. His documents are in the credits for Cars 2, and they include his birth date.

That's already a 20 year age gap!Figuring out the ages for Manfred and Gregory is very easy; take their ages in the game, take the year of the game they're in, bing bang boom MVK was born in 1951 and Gregworth was born in 1966.This leaves the birth years as follows:
MVK: 1951
Mater: 1957
Gregworth: 1966
McQueen: 1977
There is only a five year age gap between MVK and Mater, which is the smallest possible age gap of any of these dates.In summary, MaterFred problematic, but not because of the age gap. Just because MVK is fucking a car.

- How did you come up with MaterFred?Came up with a plot for Cars 4 with MVK as the protagonist. He needed a love interest. The rest was history- Is MVK a human? Is Mater a car? How does this work?A consistent through-line is that MVK is always a human and Mater is always a car, no matter what humanlike features he's described to have. It works because they are in gay love.- MaterFred is the same as RamWorth and MacDeau.So you’re comparing a tsundere with literal bullying? a literal abuse??
